Cow Daan
ऋग्वेद : गाय को अघ्न्या (जिसे मारना पाप है) कहा गया है। “गावो भगः गाव इन्द्रः…” भावार्थ: गाय धन, ऐश्वर्य और सुख देने वाली है।
- महाभारत (अनुशासन पर्व, अध्याय 83) : “गावो हि यज्ञियं सर्वं पवित्रं हि हविर्मतम्।गोपदानात् परं दानं नास्ति नास्ति च भाषितम्॥” भावार्थ – यज्ञ में जो कुछ आवश्यक है वह सब गाय से ही प्राप्त होता है। गाय का दान सबसे श्रेष्ठ दान है, इसके बराबर कोई दूसरा दान नहीं।
स्कंद पुराण (काशी खंड) : “गवां दानं महद्दानं सर्वपापप्रणाशनम्।
यत् कृतं तेन सर्वं स्यात् यज्ञो वा दानमेव वा॥” भावार्थ – गाय का दान सभी पापों का नाश कर देता है। यह यज्ञ और अन्य दानों से भी श्रेष्ठ है।गरुड़ पुराण (पूर्व खंड, अध्याय 96) : “गोदानं मोक्षदं प्रोक्तं सर्वदानप्रमुख्यतः। सप्तजन्मार्जितं पापं गोदानादेव नश्यति॥” भावार्थ – गोदान को मोक्ष देने वाला कहा गया है। सात जन्मों के पाप भी गोदान से नष्ट हो जाते हैं।
भागवत पुराण (10वाँ स्कंध) : “गावः सर्वसुरूपेण सर्वदेवमयीः स्मृताः। गवां पूजनमात्रेण सर्वदेवसमर्चनम्॥” भावार्थ – गाय में सभी देवताओं का वास है। अतः गाय की पूजा या सेवा करना सभी देवताओं की पूजा करने के समान है।
- गाय को चारा खिलाने का महत्व
शास्त्रों में कहा गया है कि “गाय के मुख में लक्ष्मी का वास है“।
गाय को हरा चारा, गुड़ या आटा खिलाना अन्न, धन और संतति सुख की प्राप्ति कराता है।
अथर्ववेद में कहा गया है – “जो मनुष्य गाय को अन्न देता है, उसके जीवन से दरिद्रता दूर हो जाती है।”

- गाय का दान (गोपदान) – सर्वोत्तम दान है, जो मोक्ष और अक्षय पुण्य देता है।
- गाय को चारा खिलाना (गोसेवा) – जीवन में सुख-समृद्धि, धन और संतान-सुख लाता है, तथा पापों का क्षय करता है। गाय सेवा करने से भगवान श्रीकृष्ण और सभी देवताओं की कृपा प्राप्त होती है।
Significance of Cow Donation & Feeding Cows
- Rigveda : The cow is called Aghnya (never to be harmed). “Cows are wealth, cows are prosperity…” Meaning: Cow grants wealth, prosperity, and happiness.
- Mahabharata (Anushasana Parva, Ch. 83) : “There is no donation superior to the gift of a cow; it is the greatest purifier.” Meaning: Cow donation (Go-daan) is the highest form of charity, greater than any other donation.
- Skanda Purana (Kashi Khanda) : “Donation of cows destroys all sins; it equals the merit of sacrifices and all other donations.” Meaning: Donating cows eradicates sins and grants supreme spiritual merit.
- Garuda Purana (Purva Khanda, Ch. 96) : “Go-daan leads to liberation (moksha). Even sins of seven births are destroyed by donating a cow.” Meaning: Cow donation grants liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
- Bhagavata Purana (Canto 10) : “Cows embody all deities; worship of cows is equal to worship of all gods.” Meaning: Serving cows equals serving all gods.
- Feeding Cows
Feeding cows brings prosperity, wealth, and family happiness.
Atharva Veda states – “He who feeds a cow, drives away poverty from his life.”
Offering green fodder, jaggery, or flour to cows brings blessings of Goddess Lakshmi.
Conclusion
- Cow Donation (Go-daan) – the highest charity, destroying sins, granting eternal merit and liberation.
- Feeding Cows (Go-seva) – ensures prosperity, health, wealth, and divine blessings in life.
By serving the cow, one attains the grace of Lord Krishna and all deities.
